The members of the Sykesville Freedom District
Fire Department have resumed full operations
following Thursday's devastating collapse and fire
that heavily damaged their headquarters, February
11.
Crews have worked around the clock, with the
assistance of neighboring departments and the
community to continue quality fire, rescue, and
emergency medical services to the
Sykesville-Eldersburg community.
Temporary living quarters have been constructed to
the rear of the firehouse, courtesy of
Rental Solutions, Inc. The main tent area
is divided into a full-service kitchen, a living
area with electricity, cable, and furniture
graciously donated by the Gamber Volunteer Fire
Department, and a bathroom area with separate
facilities for men and women.
Additional facilities include a portable trailer
which will serve as the watch office during
reconstruction, and several trailers have been
secured on site to store property throughout the
construction process.
Members of the fire department and the community
have stepped forward to donate their time, services,
and resources to assist with clean-up, continued
operations, and future construction plans.
Additionally, several neighboring fire stations have
provided coverage for the first-due community while
SFDFD membership worked tirelessly to return all
units to service.
Updates will continue throughout the reconstruction,
and providing quality service to the citizens of our
community will remain a priority for the Sykesville
Freedom District Fire Department.
